Abstract:
Based on archaeological findings, combining textile science with archaeology science, the utilization of cotton and cotton spinning and weaving in Western Regions before Yuan dynasty is studied. There are a variety of archaeological cotton textiles since Han and Jin dynasty, unearthed along the Silk Road, which were not only used in clothes, but also used in people’s daily lives. Cotton grown in Western Region belongs to G.herbaceum. The difficulty of picking and ginning restricted the development of cotton planting and technology. The planting of G.herbaceum spreaded just to Hexi Region before Yuan dynasty. In Western Regions spindle wheel or spindle was used in cotton spinning before Yuan dynasty, and the technology was not as good as wool spinning technology. Cotton weaving loom before Yuan dynasty contains two forms as horizontal and upright, which was relatively primitive
